FNMI Education Resources and Professional Learning Opportunities

Here is a comprehensive list of ETFO's First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) education resources and professional learning opportunities.

ETFO Professional Learning Events

Various FNMI events take place during the school year. Visit the Upcoming Professional Learning Events page regularly to see what new opportunities are available.

ETFO Equity Workshops 2017-2018

This program offers workshops at the local level on a wide range of equity-related themes. The workshop flyer was distributed to local leaders at the September 2017 Leadership Training. Equity Workshop Incentive Funding of a maximum of $300 per local is offered for 20 locals to encourage equity workshop presentations for members.  A minimum of 15 participants is required to run the workshop.

There are two Indigenous Education workshops available. Note that the titles will be updated to reflect language: Deconstructing Stereotypes of Indigenous Peoples and Engaging with Indigenous Families and Communities. ETFO Additional Qualifications (AQ) Online Courses

Our AQ courses are respectful of teacher professional judgement and honour adult learning principles. ETFO AQ courses provide for a superior learning experience, they are also less expensive than those offered by other providers. We are committed to making professional learning affordable for all teachers in Ontario.

ETFO AQ courses meet the guidelines set out by the Ontario College of Teachers and are accredited by the College. A couple of courses you may be interested in include: Teaching First Nations, Métis and Inuit Children and we also have a new course called Teaching LGBTQ Students. ETFO FNMI Online Book Clubs

There are two online book clubs for members to participate in:

  1. Perspectives and the Truth and Reconciliation
  2. Cultural Connections

They are free and run at different times during the school year. Once registration opens for an upcoming book club, information will be found on the ETFO home page and in the eNewsletter.
