The 2014 ETFO Central Agreements set out provisions for a new ETFO Employee Life and Health Trust (ELHT) Benefits Plan for eligible Teachers/Occasional Teachers and DECEs/ESPs/PSPs. The Plan was phased in across locals in waves. Members of our locals transitioned into the new plan on November 1, 2016, February 1, 2017, April 1, 2017, and June 1, 2017. It is anticipated that eligible retirees will be transferred into the ETFO ELHT in 2018.
The ETFO ELHT is governed by the ETFO ELHT Board of Trustees and is administered by OTIP. It is anticipated that eligible retirees will receive their OTIP enrolment package approximately three to four weeks prior to their transition date. Newly hired eligible permanent members and eligible LTOs will receive enrolment information and notifications from OTIP sent to their board email.
You will receive an invitation to enrol, sent to your board email address. If you do not receive this information within three weeks of your eligibility date, please contact OTIP at 1-866-783-6847 or email
ETFOenrolment@otip.com. Newly eligible members have 31 days from their eligibility date to enroll.
All participants have access to the full benefits plan booklet upon enrolment. Those members not participating in the plan can access the Plan design on the ETFO CB Facebook group (under ‘Files’) or by logging onto
ETFO’s EMS and clicking on the CB tab.
Previous board plans have a deadline for submitting claims after termination. 30-90 days is common but the specific timeline for each plan may vary. Members should have been notified by their board or their previous carrier of the deadline to submit their claims incurred prior to their transition date. Online claims portals for the previous plans are no longer active, so members would have been required to send claims to their previous carrier by mail. For example, if you transitioned into the ETFO ELHT plan on June 1 and your previous plan had a 90-day time limit, claims will need to be received by the carrier before midnight on August 30, 2017.
