Our thoughts are with all those affected by the heartbreaking loss of life of 19 schoolchildren and two adults in Uvalde, Texas. But thoughts are not enough, words are not enough, and statements without actions are not enough.

When will those in power prioritize human lives over politics? What will it take for lawmakers to do what is right, just and good for all of their citizens? 

Schools are supposed to be places where children and those who support them feel safe and cared for. The Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario joins the chorus of many calling for politicians to take urgent action to ensure another school community never has to experience a similar tragedy.
